All of us have grown in churches where hymn singing has been the norm as part of our worship which is Singing Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs. In two of Paul's letters in the New Testament he instructs the church on what we are to sing together in worship. In Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 he lists three terms related to music. We are to speak and teach and admonish one another in "psalms, hymns and spiritual songs".
A song leader normally leads the congregational singing of hymns accompanied by an organ or piano. Addie has been a congregational song leader and choir conductor in a number of churches in Canada. Ruth is a gifted pianist and still accompanies hymn singing in their church in Australia.
